It's a whole lot funnier today in heaven (or hell)

I read the news at 2am. George Carlin died. What??

Wasn't I just blogging about him the other day and digging up clips?

I am sad, sad, sad today. I wasn't just a casual fan. I've been into him since I was a teenager (perhaps even before I should have been). I can honestly say that watching him influenced my own sense of humor and the way I can look at life in a somewhat detached way.

The only solace today? He left us his genius to be enjoyed forever in video, audio and book form.

I was fortunate enough to have lived in Vegas where he performed often. I remember how much more caustic he was onstage after his wife Brenda passed away. Everyone knew his onstage persona. But I always wondered what Carlin the person was like. Probably ornery, but clearly brilliant.

I can't hear the words "zesty" or "tangy" without thinking of him.

Don't confuse my point of view with cynicism. The real cynics are the ones who tell you that everything's gonna be all right.
